INTERNATIONAL TEACHER SEMINAR 2006

Forum Fennicum - an Introduction

The Mare Balticum teacher seminar “Learning Communities in the Information Society” will take place on 10-11.10 at the Finlandia Hall, during the Finnish chairmanship of the European Union. About 60 participants are expected to participate to the seminar, coming from the Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Norway,) and Baltic (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) countries.

One of the goals of the seminar is the establishment of collaboration between schools, and in particular teachers, through regular online interaction and projects, in the framework of the eEurope action plan, implementing the eLearning program, developing educational services and software to speed up school networking.

Forum Fennicum was established in agreement with the University of Jyväskylä. It is based on Peda.net system, a web tool developed for educational institutions and teachers, already adopted by more than hundred Finnish schools and municipalities. Peda.net system has been customized for the needs of the teachers’ learning community, and consists of the following sections:

  1. Front-page (Fig.1): forum discussion, announcements, links, Google search and RSS-feeds of common interest
  2. Working Material: public documents and working drafs (password protected) are available in this section. Among others, results of the teacher survey.
  3. Events Calendar: schools can add events (seminars, conferences, planned trips/exchanges) to the shared calendar
  4. Teachers’ Blog: teachers can use the blog as place to discuss and comment daily school experiences and events
  5. Photo galleries: photos, audio and video clips of the teacher seminar, but also of other school events, can be posted in this section
  6. Country Discussion: schools from the same country can discuss here, in own language, issues of common interest
Forum Fennicum is now still in its development phase, and all features and possibilities of school networking will be presented during the seminar. Concerning questions, comments and new topics, please do not hesitate to contact special advisor giuseppe.lugano@gmail.com
